Tiny spots, lines, flashes of light or shapes in your vision are known as
flashes and floaters. Lots of people experience them and they
usually aren’t cause for alarm.

In some cases these symptoms can be serious. If you suddenly notice a shower of new floaters, or floaters along with flashes or a dark shadow or a ‘curtain’ in your vision, these symptoms can indicate a retinal tear or detachment, which requires medical attention. If you notice any of these

A foreign body in the eye can be a serious issue and may require medical attention, especially if it’s something like metal or glass.  These can scratch the cornea, cause infection, or even lead to vision loss if not properly treated. On the other hand, getting an eyelash in your eye is usually harmless. While it can be irritating, eyelashes typically wash out on their own with blinking or rinsing and don’t pose a significant risk. However, if discomfort, redness, or vision problems persist, it’s important to see a healthcare professional.

Getting a chemical in your eye is a medical emergency and requires immediate attention. Chemicals, especially cleaning products, acids, or alkalis can cause serious damage to the eye's surface and even lead to permanent vision loss if not treated quickly. If this happens, you should rinse your eye with clean water or saline for at least 15–20 minutes and seek medical help right away. Acting fast can make a big difference in protecting your vision.

Blunt trauma to the eye such as being hit by a ball, fist, or other object can cause serious injury, even if there are no immediate symptoms. Damage might include bruising, bleeding inside the eye, or increased pressure, which can lead to vision problems or long-term complications. It’s important to seek medical attention after any significant impact to the eye to rule out internal injury, even if the outside looks fine. Early evaluation can help prevent lasting damage.
